The software was created by US mathematician and developer Grant Sanderson, who uses it for his mathematical explainer videos on his science channel 3Blue1Brown. The name Manim is an abbreviation of the words "mathematical animations," which describes the basic idea behind the project. The finished video all lands in an MP4 file. SoX and LaTeX let you create optional acoustic effects and output mathematical formulas.
